Long a favourite of enthusiasts and professionals requiring a lightweight and compact super telephoto zoom lens for portrait, photojournalism, sport, landscape, wildlife and nature photography applications, the 50-200mm lens has just gotten much better!

The newly developed Olympus-original SWD lens drive technology has made possible an ultra-fast, whisper-quiet and high-precision AF system. SWD maximises the astonishing AF speed capability of the new E-3 camera body. The new lens autofocuses faster than the previous model by two times.

ED lens elements are used extensively to correct the color blurring that can occur when telescopic lenses are extended to their maximum focal length, while the digital-dedicated design ensures high-definition performance with clear, crisp images from edge to edge. Multicoating has been improved from the previous model for even better flare resistance and improved picture contrast.

Superb close-up shooting capability with an outstanding minimum shooting distance of just 1.2 meters throughout the zoom range. With a maximum shooting magnification of 0.21x (equivalent to 0.42x on a 35mm camera lens) this lens outperforms any other in its class. The powerful closeup shooting capability makes it easy to capture shots of small, easily disturbed small nature subjects from a comfortable distance.

Circular aperture blade mechanism creates a smooth, uniform, aesthetically pleasing blur in out of focus areas of the picture.

The lens hood has a sliding window to facilitate rotation of a polarizing filter when one is used.

The Splashproof and Dustproof design and robust construction makes it suitable for professional use.
